Summer Appetizer Recipes
This appetizer can be made ahead of time which is always appreciated when hosting a get together where you want as much time as possible to spend with your guest instead of stuck in the kitchen all night making appetizers. It is also a very visually appealing appetizer that is great no matter what age your guest are so this is as good for adults as kids and they will enjoy it too.
You can very up the fruit depending on what is in season just try and very your colors so you end up with a mixture of color for visual appeal reasons. It could easily be switched for any other fruits you like. I used wild strawberries as they need no preparation as they are already bite sized and also pack superior flavor in my opinion.
Some variations on this theme are also possible you could easily add in some cubed Monterey jack or Colby cheese. Also if you like look at our dip section this would be nice with a nice marshmallow dip or even a caramel dip would be nice but is purely optional as the fruit is all sweet enough on its own. I would steer away from using bit sized pieces of meat if having a summer party as these are troublesome on keeping cool so you don’t get anyone sick. So if you are looking for an appetizer that will work with any age group, be refreshing on a hot day, and can be made ahead of time this would be a great choice. Continue reading
There is much debate on where the cheeseburger as we know it today started and there are a few that claim the title of the home of the modern American hamburger but no matter which story you choose to believe there is no doubt as to America’s love of this meaty sandwich. What you may not have know though is you can down size these into what are known as sliders and serve them to party goers as an appetizer.
Now on this site we offer you other versions of this little gem but in this recipe we go all out and load them up into a towering colossal of a slider kind of the king of sliders if you so chose. I mean just because we are downsizing the meat and bun doesn’t mean we can load them up with all the things we love about the full-size version. I mean just because it is smaller doesn’t mean we need to compromise on the flavor combination.
To round out this appetizer gone Americana are some lovely full sized onion rings that are so much better than the frozen kind. In the batter I use buttermilk to infuse the onion rings in a deeply rich batter that will give plenty of crisp and delicious flavors to envelop the tender onion inside. It is like a nice winter jacket on a cold day and will deliver you a nice warm and tasty onion ring just like your favorite dinner. Continue reading
This is an interesting appetizer, and is particularly good served when you want to cleanse the palate. You could even serve it between the main appetizer and the entrée, to get rid of lingering flavors from the appetizer so people are ready for the entrée. If you have served a strong-tasting seafood dish first, for example, serve some sorbet before bringing out your next course so the fish flavor is removed from the mouth.
Although sorbet can also be served as a dessert, it is light enough to serve as an appetizer and homemade sorbet is not only easy to make, but it tastes wonderful too. This is a make-ahead appetizer which you can prepare in the morning and leave in the freezer. Take it out about 15 minutes before serving, else it will be very difficult to scoop out of the fruit. We are using oranges and lemons here to make the sorbet, filling the oranges with orange sorbet and the lemons with lime sorbet, so you get all those wonderful citrus flavors.
Either serve some people lemon and some orange, or give people one of each. You can also fill orange and lemon halves if you want to give people a taste of each without completely filling them up before the entrée comes out! This is a popular dessert in restaurants but those are usually made in factories, lacking the charm of homemade ones. We are using sweetened condensed milk, citrus juice (fresh is best of course) and the fruits to prepare this sorbet. That is all you need to make them. Serve garnished with some fresh lemon leaves or bay leaves if you like or a sprig of another kind of herb for a pretty presentation. If you usually buy sorbet, try making your own. This recipe is really simple. Try using limes instead of lemons if you want. Continue reading
You might want to double up on this recipe if you are going to make these white bean and mushroom tartlets for a buffet or party. This recipe does make four though, which is fine for a small gathering or dinner party. The combination of mushrooms, shallots and beans makes a flavorful and nicely textured filling for the filo pastry cases and the soy sauce, sherry, parsley, garlic and everything else adds plenty of flavor and makes these easy party appetizers stand out. The sherry adds a classic flavor and the soy sauce adds a touch of saltiness and goes well with the other ingredients.
If you are looking for holiday appetizer recipes for vegetarians, what about this white bean and mushroom dish? This flavorful appetizer is great for any occasion and it is a nice starter for carnivores too, although you might have to serve them a meat dish for the entree! Filo pastry, also spelt phyllo pastry, is light, flaky and very delicate. Its fragile texture complements the delicate mushroom and bean mixture and this is an elegant appetizer recipe which is sure to be appreciated.
Holiday appetizer recipes don’t get much more flavorful actually that this wonderful mushroom recipe. Once you have sautéed the filling ingredients and lined the filo pastry cases, all that is left to do is bake the appetizers for about twenty minutes and serve them hot. You could serve them warm or chilled but this is one example of a holiday appetizer recipe that is best served hot from the oven. You can probably envision the smell of the warm butter bean and mushroom mixture and imagine how appetizing the aroma is! Continue reading
There are lots of recipes for stuffed bell peppers, but the ultimate stuffed bell pepper recipe has got to be this one. Imagine a small, tender bell pepper stuffed completely with creamy cheese. You can serve these on their own for a light meal or you can make them into a creamy side dish. They go well with smoked salmon. If you use the baby bell peppers, you can make them for appetizers for a party. The baby bells were developed especially for the miniature vegetable market. They are very small and a little longer in shape than standard bell peppers. They can be great fun to work with, especially when you are making party appetizers.
There are two ways you can go with this dish: grill the peppers until the skin blisters, or take them off the heat as soon as the cheese starts to melt. You will be able to tell because the cheese will start to bubble around the top and ooze out. Either way, the peppers’ sweetness is heightened by the grilling. The sweetness contrasts wonderfully with the creamy filling.
For this dish, choose yellow, red or orange peppers if you really want the sweetness. The green variety can give you a little more bitterness than its sunnier cousins. Get vine ripened peppers if you can; they are the sweetest of all. Red bell peppers are high in lycopene as well as vitamins A and C. Bell peppers are considered one of the ten most important vegetables to eat because of their nutritional value. Adding them to your menu in recipes like these can help you fight off disease and nourish your body while you eat a delicious food. Healthy food does not have to taste bad… just try these peppers and see for yourself. Continue reading
