Summary: Crab Rangoon wontons are one of the most famous wonton types. Although this is not authentic Chinese, it is a wonderful hybrid dish offering classic East-meets-West deliciousness.

  • 14 oz small square wonton wrappers
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 lb shredded crabmeat
  • 1 lb softened cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  • ½ teaspoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 quart oil, for frying
  1. Heat the oil in a deep fryer to 360 degrees F.
  2. Combine the cream cheese with the soy sauce, ginger, garlic, parsley, cilantro and crabmeat.
  3. Place ½ to 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each wonton wrapper.
  4. Fold the wonton wrappers over the stuffing to make a triangle.
  5. (If you bought round dumpling wrappers you can make half-moons instead).
  6. Moisten the edges with a little water, and seal, pressing out any air.
  7. Place the wontons under a slightly moist paper towel until ready for frying.
  8. Add 3 or 4 wontons to the hot oil, and cook until golden brown, turning once.
  9. Set aside on paper towels to drain.
  10. Repeat until all the crab rangoon wontons have been fried.
